Olam Uganda Beats UGACOF To Exporter Of The Year Award
Olam Uganda Limited who procures, processes and exports Cotton, Cocoa, Sesame and Coffee were yesterday announced the top exporters of 2019, beating 2018 Winners UGACOF Limited to the 25th President’s Exports Award.
Olam, who also imports and distributes Sugar and Edible Oils, took the Platinum Award which is the Top Award given out by the President of Uganda to the Best Exporter.
Kyagulanyi Coffee Uganda Limited was the First Runners Up and were awarded the Gold Award while 2018 Winners UGACOF were announced the Second Runners Up to take the Silver Award.
Uganda’s Exports according to the Uganda Export Promotions Board 9UEPB) grew by over $100 million to hit $3.9 billion last year.
“We are definitely very happy with this Award. We didn’t expect it,” said Amos Hinamundi who represented and received the Platinum Award on behalf of Olam Uganda Ltd.
Olam, who is headquartered in Kampala, has a strong regional presence in Hoima, Kibuku, Bundibugyo, Lira, Arua, Kitgum, Pakwach and Mayuge. They have more than 70 permanent employees and work with nearly 900 seasonal staff across their operations, which range from origination and processing to logistics and distribution.
The Company, which has been in Uganda since 1997, own and operate Uganda’s oldest cotton gin, which spins medium-to-fine counts to meet the high specifications of our customers worldwide.
Winners in different categories were also announced and awarded by Uganda’s Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu who represented President Yoweri Museveni at the Awards Dinner that took place at Protea Skyz Naguru Hotel.
He asked exporters to always dialogue with government on pertinent issues in the sector through the different line ministries, agencies and departments. Kamuntu said through dialogue and harmonization, a good working relationship can be created.
